in statistical matters regarding aspects of the economic, social and demographic
area, which were carried out using, as a main source, the information produced by
the INEI and the NSS. These works are promoted by institutional initiative.
After the social immobilization decreed by the Executive Power in the second
half of March due to COVID-19, it was stated that INEI carry out activities under
the virtual modality, in order to continue the production of timely and consistent
official statistics.
In this social framework, we are preparing a new issue that we now present with
research articles for our community of readers in Peru and the global world. Today
we are experiencing a global crisis due to the coronavirus that has many social
consequences in the world of work. The material delivered today by researchers
committed to our journal is the result of an effort to observe reality through a series
of theoretical tools and concepts.
The time that we live in and the one that continues is an even greater challenge due
to this invisible threat of an unknown virus that has reduced our personal freedoms
and that seeks to impose loneliness, uncertainty and fear. Today the Magazine
celebrates four years of existence and we believe that with the task accomplished
we respond to this challenge by sowing a seed that must be continued by other
generations of the 21st century.
Number 9 of the Journal “Economy, Society and Statistics” that we now present
contains five articles that address long-term topics and content, such as the
possibilities and challenges of measuring multidimensional poverty in Peru; the
dynamics of internal migration in Peru; challenges of national statistical institutions
in the face of the COVID- 19 crisis; compilation of national accounts statistics and
an overview of public administrations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
We reiterate our gratitude and appreciation to the researchers, collaborators and
participants in this first issue of 2020 for their contribution to the journal “Economy,
Society and Statistics”, as well as to academics and researchers who make intensive
use of the statistical information produced in the country, and contribute to the
design and improvement of public policies through their research. The investigations
can be found at the following address: http://www.inei.gob.pe/bibliotecavirtual/

Finally, we invite the academic community and researchers of the country to present
their scientific articles and the main findings of their research, so that they can be
disseminated through this medium.
